As you may or may not have heard, there are some exciting updates to the Liberty Ridge spring fundraiser for 2020! As many of you know, we have held a school carnival and an online silent auction and raffle for many years as our main fundraiser in the spring. As with all our fundraisers, we evaluate the results of each event annually. The results can include: money raised, attendance, volunteer involvement, “enjoyability” by students, teachers, and staff, etc. This evaluation can lead to minor or significant changes in the events we hold the next school year. For example, the fall fundraiser used to consist of selling magazines, wrapping paper, and food items. After evaluating the outcome of that event, the decision was made to change the fall fundraiser to the Fun Run we’ve held the last few years. The Fun Run has been a great example of how our fundraising events can grow and change as we look at new ways to raise money.
We have been evaluating the spring fundraiser for many years as well, and as we looked at it (and discussed it with parents, staff, and teachers), it was decided to try something new this year. This decision was made primarily because the carnival is a volunteer-intense event to run. Last year alone there was a planning committee of 8-10 people plus 175 day-of volunteers that were needed. The chair/s and committee members commit an extraordinary amount of time to it, as well as dozens of day-of volunteers that are needed. It was getting harder and harder to find volunteers willing to commit to this level of involvement, and even day-of involvement to be able to keep the carnival running. So, we will not be holding a carnival fundraiser this spring.
Instead we will be holding an adults-only evening fundraiser event at Inwood Oaks (formerly the Prom Center) on Friday, April 3, 2020. Much like other events, tickets will be sold in advance. This event will still have the online silent auction and raffle. The auction particularly, has been a successful fundraiser with a greater volunteer participation rate. We will still be doing classroom baskets and teacher experiences as part of the auction. Additionally, there will be fun activities/games added for adults and possibly a live auction. We are very excited to pilot this event this year, and think that it will be a great success!
